First of all...I must start by saying...HAPPY BIRTHDAY MINEMINEEEEEEE!!!!!
Mineminee...a two year old's way of saying Lynette Marie
Queehee....a two year old's way of saying Chrissy
I bet some of you were wondering why we had those nicknames. Well...when we were super little, that's how we would pronounce our names...and those nicknames stuck! I wish I was in Washington so I could have helped Mineminee celebrate her birthday. But, I did the next best thing...I sent her a Smilebox with videos of us singing Happy Birthday. That way she felt like she was HERE. I think she enjoyed it! I guess her and Ava watched it and smiled the whole way through. How could you NOT smile while watching a video featuring the Luv Muffin as the main attraction? Teehee! I love and miss my sister so...
Well...today was a definite challenge. To be honest, it was more of a challenge for Juan then it was for me. He's the one that had to take over when a nurse would have. Aiden woke up at maybe 6:20am...not bad. We played...we tried to let papa sleep...he had a long day in store for him. Last night we got a call from our nursing agency saying that the nurse who was going to cover Melanie, our usual Friday nurse, couldn't work. REAL NICE!!! It would have been nice if we got more notice. Anyhoo...at 6:30am, Juan woke up and did his morning routine, getting his kids lunches ready...feeding Murphy...bringing out Aiden's equipment. All the while, I kept Aiden entertained with 'Thomas the Train'. We actually got the morning without a nurse worked out pretty well since M, Tues, and Wed, our nurse doesn't get here till 10am anyways. I stayed up and helped feed Aiden..and play with him. It wasn't until I cleaned Aiden's gravity bag and all the bottles and syringes that I went to bed. I was suffering big time because I still haven't recovered from yesterday's early wake up...only getting 3 hours of sleep. I can't even say I was running on fumes. So basically, because Juan didn't have classes or any appointment, he was able to take over where the nurse normally would. Thank GOD!!
I woke up around 4pm...and right away, I went out to see how Juan was doing. He actually didn't look defeated. (like I would have) He did have a rough day, though. Aiden only slept from 10:30am to noon...and then Kim (Occupational Therapy) came at noon. Juan told me she was amazed at Aiden's transformation! After she left, Juan fed Aiden...and wouldn't you know it....Aiden threw up. But he handled it quite well! (Juan, that is) Once he knew Aiden was done throwing up, Juan gave him a bath and everything...even managed to get the second steri-strip off the side of his face. Then, he brought Aiden upstairs and asked his mom if she could help change Aiden's wet and soapy trache tie! WOW! I guess she was pretty nervous...I don't blame her! She's never seen any of that done before, let alone done it. Kudos to her! Juan ate his lunch with Aiden...took Murphy out with Aiden, did EVERYTHING with Aiden. I was QUITE impressed. It's not easy having to watch Aiden every second. It's tough when you have to go to the bathroom! But Juan survived...and didn't bitch ONE bit! (pardon my french) He was happy to do it...cuz he's his father. :-D
When I was up, I jumped in to do my part. It was time for him to eat. So I got his food ready and played with him while he got his feeding. Today was actually a beautiful day! I guess it hit 80 degrees!! In October??? Unheard of. Anyways, ideally, I would have liked to have taken Aiden for a walk, but instead we took him out to the backyard for a swing. We saw our next door neighbors. They haven't seen Aiden since shortly after his surgery. We loved showing off his progress. We stayed outside and swung for a bit, then headed inside because Aiden actually FELL ASLEEP in the swing. It was so cute! Poor Luv Muffin. It worked out, both Juan and I ate while Aiden slept. Once Aiden started stirring, we knew that we had to turn his pins before he was fully awake. Ughhh...he cried quite a bit! Poor Juan, he gets sick every time he has to turn those pins. We still don't think it's pain as much as it is uncomfortable and annoying, which makes Aiden quite cross!! (I took that from 'Thomas the Train'...heeeheee...they use the word 'cross' ALL the time) It took quite a bit to settle him down. A little 'Thomas' FINALLY did the trick. Then he was up for the night.
Oh my goodness, Aiden was sooo cute all night! He acted more grown up. He kept imitating Juan when he would make certain gestures...he would imitate toys...he would pull me every where to tell me what he wanted, like play the piano...he would dance and dance...I enjoyed the entire evening. It wasn't until midnite that we decided to bring Aiden in to get him ready for bed, and believe it or not, he fell right to sleep. He DID wake up at one point crying his eyes out. I wasn't sure if he was hurting...if the humidity dome rubbed against his pins or something...or if it was a night mare. I gave him Motrin and sang to him. After some serious soothing...he finally fell asleep. Thank goodness! So...that was our day! We survived...and thank GOD our nurse, Sonya, gets here at 7am.
As always, check out the pictures below. Look at the scars on the side of his face...they are soooo faint! And they are just going to get lighter as time goes by! I also uploaded some of the videos we made for Lynette, my sister, for her birthday. ENJOY!
